How I learned to embrace my curly hair.

How I learned to embrace my curly hair.

Growing up I didn’t like my hair, it was so curly and I didn’t know how to take care of it. I’d spend hours straightening my hair because I thought that’s how it looked best. It would get frizzy, and I didn’t know what to do. Straightening it would only make it worse.

Finally, I decided to embrace my curls and learn how to properly care for them, which really was life-altering. I read The Curly Gir Handbook and started trying new products. I think I tried every product on the market that they make for curly hair. I’ve learned a lot along the way.

I found some product that finally worked for me. Right away I started to see a difference. Then I learned more about my hair properties, which included my hair porosity. It turns out, I have fine, low-porosity hair.

Since my hair is fine low-porosity hair, it loves Kinky Curly, Curl Keeper, Raw Curls, and some Deva Curl products. I ahve to be mindful of the products I use, since some products are too heavy, and they weigh my hair down. Or they cause frizz. In either case, that’s opposite of what you want for your curly hair.

I started using products that helped define my curls and minimize frizz and fell in love with my curls.
